Happy New Year!

A week late... oh well.

So, a new year. The household is almost a week into a no-alcohol detox and I feel a lot more energised than usual. I'm not sure if that's the detox or simply the fact that I now turn off the kid's monitor and let Mom handle anything during the night!

Mom is settling in as if she has always lived here. Chores have reassigned themselves between us and we take turns with the kids - who totally adore their Granny. Luckily her grandparenting style is very similar to my parenting style (funny that) so they haven't needed to learn anything new.

Princess hasn't had a single wee accident in almost a month. We are now starting to train her to stay dry at night. Since the 1st Jan we take her to the toilet twice during the night (I do 10pmish, Mom does 4amish). Mom says this is how she trained me, and Princess is keen on being dry "like a grownup", so hopefully one of these days she will get to morning dry.

Christmas was fun. We stayed home just the 5 of us and it was lovely and relaxed. On Christmas Eve it was very hot - over 30C - so we nibbled on pate and cheese and biscuits. In the morning a weather change came through and it was 25C and thunderstormy all day - perfect! Our aircon died at the end of November and we are waiting for a part, so hot days have no respite apart from the paddling pool...

Princess totally got into Christmas and Santa and presents this year. We don't do the religious thing, so it's just a celebration of life and family. On Christmas day we gorged on prawns and ham (an Aussie thing), and in the evening had a lovely roast dinner.

Since then Milord has been on leave, golfing as much as possible. It is very hot and we are taking things easy. Back to reality tomorrow as Milord goes back to work.

On New Year's Eve we were all asleep before 11pm! It's tough when you have a dawn start every. single. day.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year too!
